Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
